Today on Paws4Thought I talk to Dave Higgins who not only wrote two of the stories in Fauxpocalyse, but is also one of the editors and the overall publisher of the anthology (for which we are eternally grateful).

Tell us a little bit about yourself Dave.

I live in a flat full of books with my wife and two cats.

I spent many years working in law, interspersed with business analysis; whether I got the jobs because I have an unusual perspective or have an unusual perspective because of the jobs I am unsure.

While I was at university I used to write poetry and the occasional short story, but gave it up due to pressure of work. When the firm I was with closed a few years ago I found myself writing fiction again, so the decades of rhetoric and fine drafting are still getting use.

Today at Paws4Thought I welcome Fauxpocalypse author Schevus Osbourne. Tell us a little bit about yourself Schevus.

I am a 28 year old software developer by day. I served in the Air Force for four years, which gave me an easy springboard into my career field, even though I wasn’t (and still am not) finished with my four year degree. Given my recent interest and moderate levels of success with fiction writing, I don’t know if that degree is ever going to get finished. I would love to be able to transition into writing as my career, even if some of it has to be more mundane work than fiction writing.

I like reading, traveling, board games, backpacking/hiking, and scuba diving to name a few things. I have been to all 50 US states and several countries so far, with a near infinite list of destinations I want to…

“As the comet comes closer to Earth, we bid everyone farewell and a pleasant afterlife.” (Kate I. Foley, The End of the World as We Know It)

Today I’m happy to welcome Fauxpocalypse contributor Kate I. Foley. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Well, I’m a homeschooled thirteen-year-old, I love to write and read, I’m obsessed with all things mystical (most of which includes Harry Potter somehow), I sometimes overuse emoticons, and I love chocolate and peanut butter. Seriously, whoever invented the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup is a genius. A little fun fact: the “I” in Kate I. Foley stands for Isabel, which actually isn’t my legal middle name. Yet. 😉

Tell us about your story in Fauxpocalypse. How did you come up with the idea?

My story is about a girl named Natalie who firmly believes (well, for the most part) that the world is not going…

Thoughts on Vodka and Watermelons

Insights into one of the Fauxpocalypse stories. Go check it out!

Paws4Thought

Back in 1990 I was living Jerusalem in a one room apartment in Nachlaot. The world was tense. Iraq had invaded Kuwait and had been a given a deadline by America and its allies – January 16th. January 16th was also my mother’s birthday.

My parents still lived in London at the time. They had offered me a ticket to come home. But home was now Jerusalem. How could I leave my friends who had no place to go?

In the weeks before the invasion all Israelis were issued gas masks and instructed to create sealed “safety” rooms. It was known that Iraq had used chemicals in their conflict with Iran. It wasn’t sure whether they had the technological capabilities of mounting chemicals onto scuds to send to Israel, but why take the chance?

I went to the distribution center and got my gas mask. I even…

An Interview with Misha Burnett

Check out this interview with the creative mind behind Fauxpocalaypse. Also, stay tuned for further interviews with each of the contributing authors.

Paws4Thought

Misha

Today on Paws4Thought I present an interview with Misha Burnett.

Tell us about Fauxpocalypse.

It’s an anthology of original stories with a common theme. I put an open call out on the internet and received submissions from a wide variety of authors, some self-published, some traditionally published, some for whom this is their first publication. The contributors span the globe, America, Europe, Australia, and range in age from 13 to, well, I’m 50, and I may or may not be the oldest. The majority of the contributors have never met face-to-face and the entire project was put together via e-mail.

How did you come up with the idea?

Just about a year ago a major storm was predicted for the city where I live. Weather forecasters were calling for 6-12 inches of snow. Utility companies had emergency crews in place. Everyone was stocking up on canned goods and bottled water…
