The Erratic Sun – Contest the Third

I guess I should explain that my naming convention is just for The Kingdom, because Revis has his own contest running too.  But, hey, that just means even more opportunities to win a copy of this fantastic science fiction adventure!!

Anyway, the winner of my second giveaway contest is…

LIZZI!!!

Of the five people who submitted guesses (really?  that’s it?  why didn’t the rest of you who liked the post venture a guess?) her guess of 387 was the closest to the real word count on page 42 of 379.  And she guessed first too!  Almost nailed it right out of the gate.  That’s some crazy awesomesauce right there.

Hmm…  That’s now two for two of signed books getting shipped all the way from California across the pond, as they say.  It’s a trend.  My international readers should be paying attention.  Maybe they’ll be next.  Maybe this is their chance:

The Erratic Sun - Cover

For your next chance to win a signed copy of The Erratic Sun all you have to do is write a haiku in the comments section below that deals with either the mountains, the beach, why you think you deserve to win, 6 foot tall invisible rabbits named Harvey, the greatest gunslinger of all time, or… well, pretty much anything I guess.  The Queen and the Little Prince have volunteered to pick the best of the bunch and select the winner.

And, yes, I just consulted the rule book and there’s nothing against submitting multiple entries.  So… what are you waiting for?

Let me see those haiku’s!!

Happy Tribus from The Matticus Kingdom

recite-j0h4u2

Winding through the woods,
The trail disappears ahead,
My heart follows it.

Spells leaping off pages,
Or slight-of-hand tricks and skills,
My heart believes all.

Words plucked along strings,
Strumming triumphant stories,
My heart sings in beats.

…..

Today we are celebrating Tribus – all about the three you love.

You know you want to join in the fun too.  So, write it up, link it up, and tag it #HappyTribus.

And, you may have noticed a few changes around the kingdom, if you want to leave a comment telling me which has been your favorite of my posts over the last 3 years, I’ll feature it in the sidebar.

You are all awesome!

very interesting…

While busily catching up on all the posts I’ve missed since I fell into this year’s NaNoWriMo, I happened upon CK’s post regarding the “I Write Like” writing analyzer/web tool.  The page lets you insert examples of your writing and then spits out the famous author it deems your work to resemble the most.

I was intrigued.

So, I scrolled through the kingdom and pulled out several different kinds of posts to review, entered them into the tool, clicked on the analyze button, and here are the results:

A segment from this year’s NaNoWriMo project was written like: Ursula K. Le Guin

A random chatty post with updates from the kingdom was written like: Lewis Carroll

A chapter from my weekly western serial was written like: Robert Louis Stevenson

One of my silly flash fiction posts was written like: P. G. Wodehouse

My freshly pressed picture writing prompt post was written like: Isaac Asimov

One of my love poems to the Queen was written like: Margaret Atwood

The final chapter of my 2012 NaNo project was written like: Jack London

The YeahWrite post about the death of my grandfather was written like: Stephen King

My “Selcouth” Prompts for the Promptless post was written like: Stephen King

One of my favorite poems that was written like: James Joyce

One of my posts where I describe the sunrise was written like: Stephen King

……

Interesting, interesting, interesting.

Should I be worried that my writing style is all over the place and I “sound” different depending on the type of post I’m doing?  Or, should I be impressed that I’m able to change that voice depending on the message I’m trying to convey?

What do you think?  Is it good or bad that my results were so varied?

Then again, who cares!!!!

The tool said I write like Stephen King three different times.  I’m.  In.  Heaven.

Quest

Today, I’m embarking on a very different quest.  Today, I’m channeling all the Sparky goodness I can muster and I’m venturing forth to win a prize.  I understand that some of you (I’m looking at you, Le Clown) will not understand what is going on here, and I’m okay with that, but as it is my role to entertain, how about you read this instead.  Or, if that’s not your thing, some have enjoyed this post (which was Freshly Pressed if you haven’t been paying attention) and others have enjoyed this page (which should take you less than five seconds to read).  I wouldn’t want to leave you with nothing.

Still here?  Okay.  Moving on…

Oh!  And before we get back to me WINNING, I want to take a moment to do a quick shout out for Alice.  Have you met Alice?  She lives in a place called Wonderland.  Everything she writes turns to fifty shades of perfection.  Often, I can’t keep myself from laughing for the rest of the day after reading one of her posts.  I’ve been asked to leave work before.  Not that I’m complaining.  Her posts are more important than work.  Her writing could sustain me.  It’s.  That.  Good.

She’s the best.

Well, except for me of course.  I truly am the best and I’m on a quest to prove it, a quest for all the winning.  The quest for the ultimate prize!

Part of this quest involves recognizing others for their brilliance.  So, the following seven eight (updated to include Guap) bloggers are hereby declared ALL THAT IS AWESOMESAUCE.  They don’t have a choice in the matter, they have to accept the award, display it on their blogs, answer the following seven questions, and then nominate 49 other bloggers to receive the award.  (7 x 7 = 49 – the math makes sense to me)  (The math no longer makes since because I added in an eight recipient, but that’s okay because it never really made sense to begin with.)

ATIA Award

Award recipients:
Alice – because she, as already covered, is fifty shades of perfection
Le Clown – because he tries hard and he means well
Miss Four Eyes – because she has four eyes, that’s two extra ones to help her kick butt
Rara – because she’s both a dinosaur and a dragon
Grayson Queen – because he puts up with all of Rara’s shenanigans
Revis – because he is the first knight of the matticus kingdom
Twindaddy – because he is awesome and stuph

and

Guap – because he asked for it, personally, pleadingly, punctually

Questions to be answered:
How do you define your awesomesauceness?
Are there some who call you “Tim?”
What is your favorite movie and why (please answer in the form of 12 page essay)?
Why doesn’t Le Clown visit the matticus kingdom very often?
Does Baby C ever wonder why there is no Baby D (like Baby A and Baby B have each other)?
How have your movements been recently?
How many projects can Queen Creative juggle at any given time?

There!  Wasn’t that fun.  And with that, my quest is almost complete.  Plus, I know you all love getting awards so I can’t wait to see how you answer the questions and who you pass the award to.

Just think, soon the blogosphere will be overrun with jars of awesomesauce.  When that happens the kngdom will have taken over completely.  I, in all my jester glory, will be the ruler of all things blog!  And that is my prize.  That is me winning.  It is inevitable.  It has already been set in motion and cannot be stopped.

TAGGED again

KnowledgeKnut tagged me!  We are back in the schoolyard again.  And I’m okay with it.  I always liked tag.  In the scouts we played a slightly nastier version of the game called “Ditch-em.”  In the polite versions of that game those who weren’t “it” just completely disappeared making it impossible to be found and tagged.  In the less polite versions of the game we set up tricks and traps for those chasing us.

A visual representation of the current game:

tag_your_it_xlarge

For some reason I feel like Uncle Sam is pointing in my direction…  Anyone else feel that way?  Hmm, either Uncle Sam or maybe Smokey the Bear.  Speaking of scouts I can’t remember how many times we almost burned down something…  but, that’s another story altogether.  Let’s get on with the game, shall we?  We shall…

Rules:

  1. Post these rules
  2. Post a photo of yourself (if you want to) and eleven random facts about yourself
  3. Answer the questions given to you in the tagger’s post.
  4. Create eleven new questions and tag new people to answer them.
  5. Go to their blog/twitter and let them know they have been tagged.

– 2 – Eleven random facts about me:
1. I’m feeling a bit odd today.
3. Did I mention the scouts?  Yeah, I’m an eagle.
5. I definitely think rules are meant to be stretched to the limits.
7. I only almost accidentally burned down my house once.  It involved fireworks.  I was in junior high.
9. I’ve posted a few pictures of me in some of the previous games of tag I was pulled into.  If you are feeling less lazy than me, you can search for them and, er, um, check me out.
11. It’s not that I’m lazy so much as that I’m not getting a lot of sleep these days.  The little prince isn’t yet on any sort of discernible schedule.

– 3 – Questions from KnowledgeKnut and my answers:

1.  If you could spend time with someone who inspired(s) you, who would that be?
My maternal grandfather.  (Mom, I’m not just saying that to see if I can get you to cry.)

2.  Why?
He was an amazing man… and if half of the memories I have of him, and half of the stories I’ve heard about him are true at all, he was more than an amazing man.  I never got to spend much time with him when I was old enough to appreciate the wisdom and experiences I could get from him.  I’d love to have that opportunity now.

3.  If you could be the opposite sex for one week, what would you do?
I plead the fifth.

4.  What is your dream car?
I’m not really a car guy.  If had the money I’d probably buy a corvette…

5. What is something you’ve always wanted to say to someone but never had the nerve?
I’m sure there have been things, but I don’t remember them.  For the most part I try to speak my mind.

6.  When you forgive someone, can you forget?
Yes

7.  If you could be any Royal (dead or alive), who would you be?
Me.  The Jester of the Matticus Kingdom.  Duh!

8.  Why?
Because being the Jester is total awesomesauce.

9. Your favorite movie has became your reality, what is the movie and what part are you playing?
Too many choices…. too many…. too… *beep* sorry, you have fried the Jester’s brain (nice going there wiseguy), please bear with us as we try to get things up and running again…. *beep*

If they ever make the Dark Tower series into a movie (or 7… or 14…).  I would be Roland Deschain of Gilead.

10. Your goal is to become famous, how do you plan to do that?
With the wordiness of my wordy words, of course.

11.  When you are gone (dead) what is the one thing that you want to remembered for?
My wordy words.  Didn’t we just cover that?

– 4 – Questions and people I’m tagging:
1. Coke or Pepsi?
2. Why?
3. Mac or PC?
4. Why?
5. Tastes Great or Less Filling?
6. Why?
7. Why is the answer to life, the universe and everything “42?”
8. Pen or pencil?
9. Why?
10. Manual or automatic?
11. Why?

Each of these wonderful bloggers has guest blogged for me in the last couple of weeks, picking up the slack around the kingdom while my efforts have been focussed elsewhere.  And how do I repay them?  I tag them, of course!  Don’t you wish you had guest blogged for me too??!!

Of course you do!
