We had heard that the lake was mostly frozen and then it turned out that only a small part of it was. Still, it was impressive to find ice floating here and there while being driven up the lake by the afternoon breeze to collect together, while the snow drifted down to the shore most of the way around.
Oh my, is this your daily view? How do you ever get anything done??
Oh how I wish. No, this is Duck Lake near Mammoth in the Sierra mountains. I went backpacking there early in the summer, before the snow has melted.
Was there any wind? Looking at this picture, I can almost hear the wind.
It was a calm afternoon. No real wind to speak. There was the nightly gusts add the sun set, though. That cooled things off quickly and we all went to the shelter of our sleeping bags and tents.
Beautiful picture. The sky is perfectly clear and the lake reminds me of glass.
In the morning there was a fresh sheet of ice across the entire surface. It looked even more like glass but I couldn’t capture it with me camera.
