An old one from the archives of my mind. I hope you enjoy.
For one fleeting moment you were there
to deftly snatch me from the despair
that threatened to devour me.
The ravenous creature
beat a retreat
as it sensed your presence.
It turned and gave me a sly wink
that seemed to say, “I will return,
much sooner than you think.”
But it didn’t matter at all
because for that fleeting moment
you were there.
How old? Just really curious. I think I’ve seen that ravenous creature around. Used to be just a game to play with him, but not anymore. Just want him gone now.
The creature has been around since I’ve been 9. In earnest since my teens. Wrote this to a friend 5 years or so ago in thanks for being there. Posted on another place. Still feeling it now…oh lol I’m silly to think you wanted a timeline.
Yes, the creature can take permanent leave from all of us.
Since 9… Jaded my friend, I don’t even know how to feel about that. But I’m glad you write it out when you must.
Thank you, Trent. Jotting helps. As corny as it sounds, so does deep breathing, and vodka. 😉
I like this, jaded. And, as Trent said, I think I’ve seen that creature around too.
The creature is everywherish lately…I hope people don’t have it visit. I’m glad you like.
Thank you for bringing this out of the archives of your mind. Simple yet powerful. xo
Thank you for reading it. 😃
Murking about, had to read this again. I don’t know if I have anything more to add, other than that I hear you on this. And feel it. Hope you have someone around you to help scare off this beast. Because that beast is just a churl, stuck together with glue and popsicle sticks – and we, on the other hand, are made of stars.
You made me laugh with thd word churl. I hate that you get it. On the flip side, spending time with people who get it, helps. Thank you for understanding, Trent.
Always, Jaded.
Beautiful. Haunting. Too familiar. ❤
Thank you, A. I’m so sorry you can relate. ❤
Pity that there’s not much that fights off that particular beast.
I’m glad that you had a friend that helped it stay away for a little while at that point. I hope and pray you’ll find other friends who do the same. Xxx
Thank you, Faith. XX.
“The sly wink” – that’s the part that resonated with me. Wonderful read.
Thank you! I’m glad you like it.
