And your sucking breaths are heaving gasps.
Burning muscles beg for mercy, for rest,
And your mind ignores what it knows’ best.
One more step, one foot more and then another,
The miles trudge by hard and hot with no cover,
Until blurred vision clears, eyes widen,
And your prize stretches across the horizon.
