“Old Mrs. Leary left the lantern in the shed and when the cow kicked it over, she winked her eye and said ’It’ll be a hot time, in the old town, tonight.’ Fire, fire, fire!“
(FYI – you probably shouldn’t yell that in a crowded building.)
If my home was on fire, and all my loved ones (people and animals) were already safe, here are the five items I would grab.
Option A (unrealistic – but I’d probably try it anyway):
1. A bandana – which I would quickly soak in water and then wrap around my face, covering my nose and mouth.
2. A bucket – which I would fill with water to both throw at the fire and help me re-soak the bandana as needed.
3. A water hose – which I would turn on and then set it up so it would continually spray onto my roof.
4. A second water hose – which I would carry with me and use to hose down everything I possibly could.
5. A heavy blanket – to use to put out hot spots, or wrap around me to protect against the heat if I’m forced to retreat and give it up as a lost cause.
Or…
Option B (logical):
1. Passports and other ID stuff
2. Laptops
3. Wedding rings
4. Wedding album
5. My wife’s jewelry box
Or…
Option C (sentimental):
1. The printed and in the process of editing version of the fantasy novel (Ascursion) I’ve been working on for 5 years.
2. The printed and in the process of editing version of my NaNoWriMo project (Sierra Storm) from last year.
3. The “green” set script from “Tombstone.”
4. The one of a kind dub plates that are part of my record collection.
5. My Manchester United, Boca Juniors, and Los Angeles Galaxy jerseys.
Which option do you think I should really go with?

I really liked all of option A. Your wife would definitely prefer you to pick option b. You would probably like option c. I would go with option d, all of the above. It would be a lot to carry but I think you could do it. Thanks for the thought. I hope my house isn’t on fire right now.
As my wife and kitties are still at home, I hope my house isn’t on fire right now too! (What’s with daily prompt doing all these morbid/trajic questions recently?) I like option D too. Maybe doing option A and option B at the same time will give me the opportunity to attempt option C…?
Difficult choice actually
*hugs*
That’s how I ended up with the three options in the first place!
I’d go with number 2 though
It is the logical one…
And probably the one I’d go with. Though option A is very tempting.
I’d go with option C. Those things can’t be replaced, and you can always get remarried. haha. Just kidding. Option B is a must for us married men.
That is the way of it.
A little from each, maybe? All bases covered.
Hose, water bucket, laptop, jewelry box, and Tomstone script… but just because it is easier to find at the moment than the dub plates.
How about option B, give that stuff to your wife to hold on to while you run back inside and grab option A. Save the house, no need for option C.. which if that happened, you wouldn’t need option B either …but just in case!
Tough question!
That’s a good plan! Though I think I’d want to start with Option A – it’s easier to put a fire out the quicker you get to it, and then try to make a grab for B on my way out the dinner if I have to, and then maybe go back for C if there is time…
Definitely! Way to make me think about what to grab if a fire happens!!

I say start with option C for your wife to hold while you go back for option B… I think you may just make it on time.
Duly noted! Thanks for the input.
